Flash Sale!

Hey everyone!
I'm currently having a flash sale on all of my prints in my online store! I want to make room for some new prints, so I'm trying to get some of my old ones out of the way! Everything in my store is currently 20-40% off. The sale runs until April 4th at 5pm MST, so stop by and grab a print or two if you want! Here's a link to my store: www.ashleyfairbourne.com/store

I've been working on quite a few commissions this week and I'm hoping to have some more to show you guys soon! This custom Harry Potter commission was way fun to illustrate!  I created it with Copic and Prismacolor markers on some mixed media paper by Strathmore. I love using the mixed media paper mostly because it's extremely durable. I love layering markers and pencils and pens and stuff, so I find it really holds up well with my process!

I also have been obsessed with watching The Great British Baking Show lately! (Anyone else with me??) Baking is one of my favorite things to do in my spare time, so it's fun to watch a friendly competition about it. I pick up a lot of techniques from it (and get really hungry, too!) They always say to watch out for "soggy bottoms" with their pies and tarts on the show and it always makes me giggle.

Finally, I started working on a custom shadow box these past couple weeks and wanted to share a bit of the beginning stages with you guys! I'm thinking of documenting the whole process so that I can make a blog post about it from start to finish when it's done!

As always, thank you guys for your continued support! If you have any questions or would like to inquire about a commission, please feel free to email me at ashleyfairbourne@gmail.com

Thank you all!

Cheers,
Ashley xoxo

Laundry is Dumb + Other Stuff

 Hey everyone!
Here are some of the things I have been working on these past couple weeks. I'm currently catching up on a bunch of commissions, so I will be able to show those to you guys once everything is finalized!

I basically just scribbled this hair. It ended up being the therapy I needed. haha

Laundry is literally the worst thing in the entire world. Well, okay, it is to me! I always put it off until the last second, so there is always an enormous pile to deal with!

This sketch was actually done a while ago, but I was looking through some sketch books and found it. I remember when I drew it, I wasn't super stoked on how it looked. But a year later, I found it and actually think it's pretty fun!

I was messing around with different style choices in my sketchbook yesterday and posted it on Instagram. Someone pointed out that it looks a lot like Mel Milton's work (check his stuff out HERE). I was definitely flattered!

I started working on this little wood piece yesterday as well! I carved it out of some balsa wood (I think?), primed it, and then started to paint on it with gouache. It's looking a lot like Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service, but I'm hoping to have it look a little less like her by the time I'm done with it! Maybe a little more on the creepy side? I guess we will see!

I sketched this out on International Women's Day and then put it in Photoshop to clean up a bit.

That's everything for this week! Thanks for the support, as always! :)

Cheers,
Ashley

Doodle Drop!

Hey everyone!
So I have a bazillion sketches and doodles to show you guys! I have been drawing a lot lately, but haven't been feeling very inspired. Seems strange, I know, but I just feel like I need to get out of my comfort zone or something! I have been doing a lot of photo shoots lately for head models, so I am hoping to get some head renderings done soon to change it up a bit!

Character design of my good friend, Marie. She's a babe, so it was easy to make the drawing look good.

The start of a painting of a girl with a planet for a head... just normal stuff here.

Here is the same painting with some more done to it. I am hoping to have it finished sometime this week or next!

More space stuff. See what I mean about needing to change it up?? Maybe it's not a big deal. Space is pretty awesome.

Sketch #1...
 ... and sketch #2!

I started this piece thinking it would be beautiful, but it ended up being way creepier than expected. It is both a blessing and a curse.

Happy Chinese New Year! - Done in Photoshop

...and it was Valentine's Day, too! Personally, I think the holiday is pure silly, goopiness, but I wanted to try to make valentine card that I wouldn't mind giving to someone!

Submission for Women Who Draw - check it out! It's a great site with an awesome mission!

And finally - I was asked to create another flyer for Kilby Court in Salt Lake City. I had space on the mind (big surprise) and I wanted to test out some fun, hand-drawn, retro typography! I'm pretty happy with the results!

Thank you all so much for your continued support!

Cheers,

Ashley

Sketchez 'n Thangz, yo.

Hey everyone!

I'm sticking to my guns and updating today even though I don't feel like I have a lot to share. Last week was rough and left me pretty distracted, so I didn't get a lot done in the creative department. But hey - that's how life goes sometimes!

I've been really into digital painting lately and so I made this little demo portrait in Photoshop to experiment with technique and color palettes. It went a lot better than I was expecting! I even posted a speed paint video of it on my YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhV1u4eo2lo
Personally, I love watching speed painting videos. It's insane how quickly the piece transforms!

I'm sure that I will have a lot more to show you within the next couple weeks. I have a lot of different projects going and a lot of them should be finished soon!

Thank you all for your continued support!

Cheers,
Ashley

Moleskine Drawings & My YouTube Channel!

Hey guys!

I have exciting news! After months of planning, my YouTube channel is finally live! I will be posting videos weekly of time lapse drawings, product reviews, and other process videos. Click HERE to visit my channel!

I doodled up this girl being bummed about winter and decided to make a time lapse video of my drawing process.

I got a Munny figure this year for Christmas after wanting one for years!! For those who don't know what in the world I'm talking about, there is a company called Kid Robot that makes these plain DIY vinyl figures that you can paint and make look however you want! I am so excited to get started on it and I wanted to make sure I documented the process of creating it! Here are a few photos of the things I have been working on with it -

Sketching out ideas of what I would like the face to look like...

...and here are the first few coats of paint on the face! Really excited about the color palette for this! I will hopefully have more progress made by the time I post next!

I was commissioned to make this Han and Chewie piece for a child's room. I had so much fun redesigning the characters!

I finally got a Moleskine sketchbook! I have been lusting after them for years... and I finally splurged and bought one! Can I just say, the paper feels amazing! It leaves a super velvety texture when you use Prismacolor pencils on it.

I've been listening to Blondie a lot lately and thought I would give a caricature of Debbie Harry a try! This was done in the Moleskine sketchbook with a black Prismacolor pencil.

Thank you all so much for your continued support!
Stay warm and drink a warm cup of tea tonight!

Cheers,

Ashley
