Getting Ready for Finals!

Hey everyone!
I sure hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and ate like 1 bazillion turkeys! I am getting ready for finals and it feels crazy. It seems so weird that next semester is my LAST. What??
It also feels so good.
So basically everything is super crazy right now while I try to get my Christmas commissions and finals and everything all rounded up and finished on time! Here are a few things I completed these last couple weeks!

Here is a book cover I did for The Wizard of Oz! I made it by cutting out pieces of paper and gluing them down with some supports. I am pretty happy with the results, but I may add a paper cut out title to the piece!
I did some fan art of Catwoman! She is my favorite. I have a whole list now of ideas for Catwoman fan art and I think I am going to make a bunch of fun sketches! I can't wait to share them with you guys once they are completed.
Finally, here is a cute little Dios de los Muertos girl I sketched yesterday! I just love Halloween and I am pretty bummed it's over. Yeah, Christmas is pretty cool too, but Halloween definitely takes the gold for me!

Thank you all for your support! I sure appreciate you guys! Have a wonderful day!

Cheers,

Inktober 2015!

Hey everyone! It's been a minute since my last post, but last month I participated in Inktober, so I wanted to combine all of my Inktober sketches in a blog post for you all to enjoy!
For my Inktober theme, I decided to go with some of my favorite female movie characters! I ended up only getting 28/31 sketches completed, but I'd say that's pretty good! See if you can name all the movies these characters are from!

I hope everyone had the best Halloween! I know I did. It was awesome.

cheers,

Sickness Sucks

I am getting sick! I really hate when that happens. Mostly because I can never seem to slow down so it makes it harder for me to get better. You would think I would have learned by now... but nope.

Anywho, I had to do an illustration that was for the nursery rhyme "Hey Diddle Diddle." I decided it would be fun to go with a space theme instead of the typical farm vibe! I painted it with acrylics on watercolor paper. For those of you who aren't familiar with the nursery rhyme, here you go!:

"Hey diddle, diddle,
The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon,
The little dog laughed to see such sport,
And the dish ran away with the spoon."

This is a little otter character design I sketched out...
The undersketch for a series of paintings I am working on. I am so excited to get going on these! They are bound to be a ton of fun and I can't wait to show you guys!

"We are Siamese if you pleaaaseee..."

.. and finally, another sketch from my sketchbook. I was experimenting with different color combos with my prismacolors.

I hope you all have a great week!

I'm so excited!

My classes are going to be so fun! A lot of work, but definitely awesome! I am currently preparing myself for a couple of cool projects and I will make sure I keep you guys updated with sketches and comps.

I just wanted to show you guys a sketch I did this week. I don't have a lot of cool sketches this week, but I did want to show you a couple of photos I took during my vacation this summer. Enjoy!

I hope you all have a wonderful week! Chat soon.

Yikes! School starts in a few days!

Where did the time go?? I'm just finishing up my last summer of school before my final year of classes. The end is so close but so far away! I am pretty excited about my classes starting on Monday. I'm not sure if I've mentioned what I am taking but here it is again: Children's Book Illustration, Advanced Illustration, BFA Project, and Narrative Illustration. So.... it's going to be a busy semester to say the least.

I have been doodling a lot this week, but haven't come up with a ton of stuff I like. The two doodles below are some fun tiny completed sketches I did!

Messing around with some liquid gold leaf...

... and then doodling Richard Nixon.

I'm just trying to suck the rest of the life out of the little summer I have left! Next time we talk, I will have started classes! Wish me luck!

Sketchy sketches and other doodles

Hey everyone!
So my friend and I have been challenging each other to make art every day for 30 days. I thought it would be a good idea since school starts soon and I could always use some more sketching practice! So far I haven't had any problem meeting the goal, which makes me happy! I just wanted to share a bit of what I've been up to with you all.

I decided to start a lino cut out, which has proven to be a lot of hard work. I haven't worked on it much since I accidentally sliced open my finger with the blade about a week ago haha. But as soon as it's finished, I'll definitely post the finished project.

Messing around with my new brush pen.

A sketch of Waldo for Sketch Dailies!

I started sketching my dog for fun. I don't really draw animals that much, or at least I don't think I understand their anatomy as well as I do humans.

Sick girl sketch. Unfortunately I had some marker bleed through onto the sketch before I got a good picture.

The sketch and finished product a commission my friend had me do. She wanted me to make her into a cute cartoon character!

...and finally, some hand practice. Cuz don't we all need practice drawing hands?

Family Portrait Commission

My boyfriend and I just signed up for the Chalk the Block event in our city! I am so excited to collaborate with him and create a chalk piece for people to enjoy! That is happening September 17-19, so I will definitely keep you guys posted if I come up with some thumbnails of our piece.

I had the opportunity to do these fun portraits for this cute little family!
These were done in acrylic on watercolor paper. I had a lot of fun playing around with layering and making the acrylic look like watercolor in some spots.

Cheers,

Ashley Fairbourne

p.s... the annoying white border around the pictures is from Instagram... I will definitely get rid of that in the future haha.
