self-portrait

i made myself into a cartoon.

lately people have been telling me that i am more like a cartoon than a real person, so i decided to see if they were right... and they probably are. i look like basically the same person as a cartoon drawing.
watercolor+pen is a process i use a lot because its fairly easy for me and i usually get good results... i started by making a line drawing with india ink, then filled it with water color, and then added some details and texture with prismacolors.
the expression i am making in the portrait just makes me giggle.

also:

we officially started our lecture class. its late at night, making it hard to pay attention completely... so i kept making silly little doodles. i decided to listen to my friend Hannah and start posting more of my doodles. so thats a thing now. i just drew this weird picture of a cat on a bicycle... he also has a mustache. and a monocle.

negativity in negative shapes

school!
thats what is going on in my life right now. ill be honest.. i didnt feel as mentally prepared this semester as i normally do, but i think im slowly getting back into the swing of things. im really glad it is forcing me to focus on my art... i love drawing.

so, as it turns out, i only have one studio class that actually requires drawings/sketching. i totally lucked out! that being said, im attempting to update my blog with current projects 'n stuff im working on! in my figure drawing class we are currently focusing on negative shapes, or "what you don't see." i must say, its not as easy as i thought it would be. he also only let us use black prismacolor... which if you dont know, you cant erase it! augh. so.. the first sketch was done from a live model, while the other 4 were from photographs. hope you enjoy this simple post! :D

from our model in class today

her torso is a little elongated, but you get the idea

ive been listening to a lot of Rilo Kiley, which i guess is a reflection of my mood recently. good thing we are working on negative shapes for my negative attitude... get it? heh.. well, hopefully i can get some angry/bitter looking artwork pumped out! (i try to make the most of everything haha)

anyways, thanks for stopping by! and have the best day ever.

cheers,

cat lady mug

school is starting next week. it totally snuck up on me.

i feel like i dont mentally prepare myself for school as much as i used to. but i suppose thats okay as long as no one tries to make me do math problems. well, i just wanted to post a fun little update before i start pumping out projects for school! ill try to keep my blog updated as much as i possibly can, but i guess only time will tell.
wish me luck!

so lets get on with it. i really like cats. but most importantly, i really like drawing cats. its so fun to try and CATpture (get it? heh) personalities and play with different body shapes and such. so i had some fun the other day and decided to make a little coffee mug covered in my feline friends!
(see the little singed whisker? tee-hee)
i had to write "MEOW" somewhere... i just had to.

now i can parade around with my cat mug and show the world who i truly am.

 cheers,
ashley may =^..^=

dat burfday gurl

oh hello everybody! its been a minute. i feel bummed i havent been able to update my blog as much... hopefully once school gets started, ill be able to post more sketches and things like that. or maybe the semester will eat me alive. i guess we will see!

today is my roommate/friend's BIRTHDAY! she is 22 (i know you want to sing Taylor Swift to her...but dont!)
so as a present, i painted her a picture! its her... and a freaky looking cat? and a sun/orb thing.

and yes, her hair is blue in the real world! she is awesome like that and has the best kind of style.i just wanted to give the blog a lil update though so that i keep on top of things!
also, as a side note, i should have a lot of more rendered, finished pieces to upload soon. well, at least 2. ive just been putting a lot of effort into them and i dont want to show them to anyone until they are where i want them to be! :) so hang tight, peeps.

cheers,

anatomy stuff

i feel like i havent posted a lot of my realistic artwork...so i wanted to add a little more to the collection and show you guys this piece. this was my final project for my anatomy and figure structure class last spring semester. we were required to recreate a master drawing and then use an overlay of vellum or mylar (its basically transparent paper) to create the bone structure for the figure and the locations of the muscles. although it was super time-consuming and definitely exhausting, i am really happy with it!

so here is the first layer, the "master drawing"...

and then we have the second overlay of the bone structure drawn in blue...
(sorry some parts are cut off... it was weird to try and take pictures of it without taking the whole thing apart)

and then finally, here is the 3rd layer of the muscles drawn in red.
if you want to attempt to read the labels, be my guest. unfortunately, the vellum overlays make it hard to get a crisp shot of the layers underneath, so it might be a lost cause. either way, you get the idea!

as always, thank you all for your constant support.
love ya bunches (duh!) xoxo
