Family Portrait Commission

My boyfriend and I just signed up for the Chalk the Block event in our city! I am so excited to collaborate with him and create a chalk piece for people to enjoy! That is happening September 17-19, so I will definitely keep you guys posted if I come up with some thumbnails of our piece.

I had the opportunity to do these fun portraits for this cute little family!

These were done in acrylic on watercolor paper. I had a lot of fun playing around with layering and making the acrylic look like watercolor in some spots.

p.s... the annoying white border around the pictures is from Instagram... I will definitely get rid of that in the future haha.

Vacation was fun....

...so I drew some beach babes! 

It was seriously so much fun. But I am back to real life now, so I wanted to share a couple little doodles I did on my trip. I have a few pages I drew in on my trip that I will show next time. By that time I will hopefully be done with the current commission I am working on, too!

 

I also was commissioned by my friend to draw a picture of her dad for Father's Day, so I thought I would share that too! It was done with sumi ink and acrylics. I had a lot of fun messing around with a new technique for this piece!

Anyways, there is not much new besides I am cracking down on all of my commissions, starting work on my BFA show (I graduate in a year!), and then figuring out what my drawing will be for Chalk the Block! Should be a fun time. Art is the best thing.

Technology can be so stressful.

Oh! Hey everyone!

I'm finally getting back into a good routine with my art. It was a pretty crazy semester and then I had a lot of commissions and things to take care of as soon as school got out! But its all settling down now so I am planning on updating my blog weekly now! Hooray!

So I'm pretty excited to show you guys some of the stuff I've been creating! Some of these pieces were finals for some of my classes, others were me just messing around and having a bit of fun! If you follow my instagram (@ashleyfairbourneillustration)... sorry! You have probably seen a lot of these. -__- but even if you have, I hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think!

 I did this portrait of Mr. Spock with acrylics. It was the final for my Advanced Figure Drawing class and I am really happy with the way it turned out. I decided to use watercolor paper when I was painting with the acrylics and I forgot how much I love watercolor paper! It made dry brushing and doing layers of color so easy. Also, I am kind of on a Star Trek kick right now, so I'm excited to have this in my house heh heh.

 Here's another geek piece I did. This was for May the 4th in my sketchbook. Yoda is such a cutie.

 A quick little study in my sketchbook. It's based off of a piece of art I found on pinterest. I just loved the linework and color palette and couldn't resist.

 This was my final for my head rendering class and I just have to say that class KILLED me. It was so much work and I found myself getting so frustrated and bored with how monotonous all of the work was. BUT. I have totally grown so much with realism and drawing human faces since I took the class... so I would have to say all the pain was worth it. But I'm still not to fond of drawing with charcoal. It's sooo messy.

 My boyfriend requested me to draw this little dude. He gave me a list of criteria and I interpreted it any way I wanted. I definitely think that is a great way to get your imagination juices flowing.

I got some new brush pens and I wanted to try out some new techniques with them... and this was the result. I really like the Pentel Brush Pens because you can get some crazy free-spirited lines with them. I want to keep practicing though, and hopefully gain a little more control over them.

Im Alive!

Hey everyone! I am so sorry about the lack of posts! This semester has been pretty demanding since I am currently attending school full time! 

So let me fill you guys in on what's new with me. I am taking 4 classes this semester: Advanced Figure Drawing, Ceramics, Conceptual Illustration and Rendering the Human Head. So far I have been keeping up with everything pretty well! I am estimated to graduate in about a year! Only two more semesters before I am out on my own. I am nervous but also excited for the future.

Nothing else is really new. I am going to try and get back in the habit of updating this every week! Until next time, enjoy these drawings I've done over the last few months.

INKTOBER 2014!

Wow! October really flew by! I decided that since I was so busy, it would be best for me to just do a big post with all my Inktober drawings in it! I will give you guys some updates in my next post.

So this year for Inktober, I decided to give myself a theme so that I wouldn't get bored. It turned into a story and somehow turned into a 3D project too. I had a lot of fun with it, but it sure was a lot more work than the standard Inktober drawings. I am thinking I will compile all of them into a book that I can sell a little before Halloween next year!
